Front face Sacred to the memory of SAMUEL LONGBOTTOM, of MIXENDEN, in OVENDEN, born Dec 24th 1822 died Mar 16th 1876. This monument was erected as a tribute of respect and esteem by his numerous admiring friends. He was well known by his talent and compositions to the musical world having been for many years conductor of the celebrated BLACK DYKE BAND, and was also organist at ST PAUL'S CHURCH DENHOLME GATE. By his gentle unassuming manners, and his kind disposition of heart, he formed a wide circle of warm admirers. He was also an affectionate husband, kind father and sincere friend We mourn thy loss, the vital spark has fled From earth to heaven by holy angels led On heaven's plains now strike the immortal lyre. And tune thy voice with the angelic choir. Close to thy maker, god, for ever, ever blest In sweet reposeenjoy eternal rest. In loving Memory of HANNAH LONGBOTTOM, widow of the above, born Sep 13th 1823 died Dec 28th 1909 "With Christ."
